We love this series of three books by this author. We cook at home all the time and these books are very informative. When reading the intro to her subject I found that she 'tells it like it is' with chicken! I have never before found the sanitation and quality problems spelled out so clearly. This book finally convinced me to buy better quality birds and to be even more of a bear about the chicken sanitation problems in the kitchen. "Pretend you are a surgeon putting on your gloves and keeping a clean, sanitation field all around you when preparing the bird to cook"..... I tell my husband, a big, burly artist who constantly wipes his hands on his pants therefore creating a secondary art work on his clothing. He seems not to have watched any doctor shows on television so he can't maintain the vision of infection=death vrs. cleanliness=survival through the entire bird preparation and seasoning rituals. I take on the responsibility now, gearing up with long rubber gloves, plenty of chlorox wipes, and a good dose of fantasizing about being in an important biology lab on the moon.
I bought this book together with Cree LeFavour's other recent cookbook, "Fish," and my comments on that book apply equally here, so I'll just copy and paste my review: I thumbed through a copy of this book when I saw it at Williams-Sonoma but bought it from Amazon due to a better price. I've had a copy of "The New Steak" by the same author for several years and I've liked most of the recipes in that book. I also like her approach of including recipes for suggested side dishes together with the main course. It's an excellent resource when you prepare something new that might include unfamiliar seasonings or the like.

I especially liked the option to purchase the Kindle edition at a steep discount after I ordered the hardcover. I downloaded it into the Kindle app on my iPad instead of onto my Kindle itself, and I actually used the electronic copy before the hardcover shipment arrived. Very useful to have the electronic copy since my iPad fits nicely behind a glass cover in the kitchen and eliminates the need to crack the spine of the hardcover. The e-book is also useful when we visit relatives (my sister-in-law doesn't like to cook, so since she hosts us when we visit, we cook for her). Since I'd bring the iPad anyway, I like not having to bring the hardcover book.
Well written, beautiful graphics, fabulous recipes. I do NOT need any more cookbooks, but couldn't resist this one, and and glad that I didn't.
I love this cookbook! I have a sorta "cookbook acquisition disorder", so I read a lot of them. I read this practically cover to cover, and just about every recipe appeals to me. I love the layout, and that each chicken recipe is paired with side dishes that are also very enticing. So far I've made the meatballs over angel hair pasta, and the sides. Delicious! Now I've also purchased the authors' book on steak, which is wonderful too.
Really well-written and very organized. Easy to use with great ways to make home cooking more enjoyable, original and successful. Brings in international seasoning and food combinations.
I love this cookbook and I use it all the time. The recipes are not over complicated...they are simple, easy to follow, and for the most part, don't cost a ton to make. I also like that the recipes are grouped by a complete meal-in other words each recipe is collection of a main and sides (or a main, a side, and a salad). Everything always pairs perfectly, and of course everything is good cooked separately as well.
This is just such a pretty cookbook and full of wonderful recipes. I have one for myself and have given it as gifts to friends.
This is a must have for those that enjoy cooking with chicken. There are so many recipes of all sorts that you will never get bored! Highly recommended
