I am listening to my kindergartner read aloud to herself as I type this review - the best promotion I can give for this book! We tried several different books and methods for teaching our daughter to read, and this was the one that worked the best. She has a very ordered mind, and the clear patterns and logical progression throughout the book were perfect for her. I loved the pictures to color under each letter and empty space to draw, breaking up the task of tracing letters over and over again as well as engaging more of her brain. Everything "clicked" for my daughter about 3/4 of the way through this book, and she is now an avid reader, reading books at a first-grade level and even trying to teach her younger sister letters and words. We are now working through the second book in the series. Highly recommend these books to anyone wanting to teach their child to read and write!
lets go baby
This book has been wonderful for my 6 year old son. He has had some problems in kindergarten with sight words so this work book has really been great! It starts with the basics and slowly moves toward learning the more difficult words. It uses the letter sounds and builds up to sounding out words that sound similar. Example is : working from letter A, to an, to words with -an..... pan, fan, man.....It makes it easy to learn how to read new words by simply sounding out the letters of the word! Great resource for early learning.
I homeschool my 7 children. I used to have to make up worksheets to teach my children how to blend 2 letters together i.e.. an, on, un, in etc....
This is the perfect pre-primer book! After book 2, my children were ready to start Ordinary Parents Guide to Teach Reading.
This program is amazing!! We have started Book B now and my daughter loves it as much as I do. She is learning her letters, the sounds they make, how to write them and then they are quickly added to other letters introducing them to word families and then they are reading. She is not reading because she has memorized what a list of sight words look like, she is reading because she knows what sounds the word makes and why it sounds that way. They are learning grammar and punctuation all at the same time. By lesson three, she wrote her first sentence!
I absolutely love this and the second book in this phonics guide. I used this to teach my 4 year old to read as she entered into kindergarten. It was my first experience homeschooling my daughter, and after being somewhat afraid of the endeavor of teaching someone how to read - she took to these books with great enthusiasm. Now in first grade she read totally unassisted and absolutely loves reading anything she can get here hands on. Much of her excitement may be her personality and not necessarily because of the books but I feel it gave her a ver fun and positve launching pad for her education. Very easy to use with the tethers guide.
