My son and I just couldn't get excited about this book. We read two chapters and started the third when he said, "Can you slow down? I can't make sense of these sentences." That's when I realized the sentences were pretty monotonous and I had even zoned out while reading to him. The book doesn't have engaging pictures or many descriptive words to liven up the story. There weren't any negative themes or scary images. My 6 year old just didn't find it very interesting.

Great story for bedtime!

A lovely book for young children. Although he was skeptical at first, my six year old son very much enjoyed it and looked forward to hearing new chapters. He even asked us to order the next book.

This is a sweet and simple book. I read this loud to my 7 yr old, and I teared up a few times, not because it was sad, but because with was so sweet. Loved it!!!

Cute story with good morals. Parts are pretty funny. My son & I (kindergarten) really enjoyed it. Hope you do too.

My 6 year old son and I LOVED this book! It is just so cute and sweet. It was part of our curriculum and we couldn't resist reading ahead. Because it was so good, we ordered the sequel, Penny and Peter. Just delightful, fun reading!

Carolyn Haywood's books were some of my favorites when I was little, and now my kindergartner loves them too! These books are so wonderful -- they were written in the 1930s and 40s, so they are sweeter and more simpler than some present-day books. Love them!!
This was a very nice book for my 6 yrs old son...its a book that builds your child vocabulary and know different ways to reword things
