"Remember -- you make your own luck."

Abandoned on the frontier by her faithless fiancé, Jane Peck prepares to head home, only to learn that the Philadelphia life she once knew is no more. But can a proper young lady find happiness as the only woman in a primitive pioneer settlement? Armed with only a finishing-school education and her natural determination, Jane must endure life with her flea-bitten landlord, a perilous manhunt, and the traps and hazards of a blossoming romance.

Will Jane survive the challenges of the wild, uncharted frontiers of friendship, love, and the Washington Territory?

I highly recommend this book! My 4th grade 10 year old daughter absolutely loves this book, and will actually say "I can not put this book down!" She is very intriguied by all of Jennifer Holm's books, and this one is no different. I have already purchased "Penny from Heaven"; she peaked into the first chapter and said she can't wait to get started on it. She was introduced to Jennifer Holm books in her class room, and i am thrilled her teacher mentioned it to me.
It looked like a book that would have interested me if the Main character hadn't changed herself so much, also Talk about whiny and selfish.
Kids loved this
I've always said that I've learned more about history by reading great historical fiction than I did in ANY history class.

This was one of those adventures where you feel like you're along for the ride.

I love Boston Jane!
This is such a nice book. I am 54 and i like it! It is a good children's book too.
The Boston Jane trilogy are my favourite books of all time. I first discovered them in middle school and actually read them backwards because I didn't realise they were a series and what order they went in! I am 21 now and I still read the books, in the correct order, or just open one up at a random page and know immediately where I am: in Shoalwater Bay.
Excellent book that brings the past to life through the young girl. Great read for young teens (or even earlier depending on reading skill).
These books never cease to be enjoyable, no matter the age.
