by Janet Schulman,Marc Brown

Arthur has the hiccups, and none of the traditional cures suggested by his parents help. Ignoring his pesky sister D.W., who claims she knows how to get rid of them, he calls on his friends for help. The Brain suggests standing on his head; Buster says laughter is the best cure and reads him jokes; Muffy’s old family cure is licking a lollipop while hanging upside down. But nothing does the trick. Dejected and still hiccuping, Arthur goes to bed. And that is when D.W. proves she really does know how to get rid of hiccups.

I grew up on the Arthur series, and I am enjoying reading these books with my daughters. You have to understand that Arthur is basically Marc Brown himself, and he tells stories that relate to his childhood and growing up with his sister, Kim Brown, the real DW. I love this series and love the stickers that come with these books.
This book shows a sister laughing at her brother who is having the hiccups, shows one child telling mean jokes about another right in front of her, shows a older brother threatening "to get" his sister. None of the above is behavior I want modeled to my 5 year old. We have seen on other "Arthur" product, a video, that also showed unpleasant, snarky children. Looks like we will take a pass on the whole series.
