If discussing money is a difficult task for adults, it’s doubly so where kids are involved. Not only is the subject loaded with cryptic jargon (mortgages? Bull markets? Huh?), but it often fails to click with how a kid sees his or her world. Many young teens do not yet have a job, and even if they do, their responsibilities with their earnings are miles away from grown-up money issues. In other words, not only is money a little mysterious, it’s also seen as something that's none of their concern. The Secret Life of Money is written to address this last point in particular. It’s central message is that money affects us deeply and that even kids can have an effect on it, too. This book uses odd anecdotes, engaging comics, and a wealth of surprising everyday connections to help young readers see and understand cash from an entirely different angle. From the history of different currencies to why we buy what we buy, from how charities and credit cards work to saving and investing, and a whole lot more, readers will gain not only an appreciation for the myriad ways that money changes, influences, and betters their lives.

I've been reading this book out loud for the past few weeks with my 12 yr. old. son and it's definitely a valuable book. It's the first one I've chosen to begin the conversation about becoming financially educated. It's written in a language that kids can relate to and it packs a punch with very useful, practical information. We were eating at a trendy restaurant this weekend, where a burger that use to cost $12 is now $17, and he made the comment to me that "Inflation is terrible, dad." It's helping him to become aware of money in a way that he wasn't before. I highly recommend this book to share with young kids.
I gave this book to my two nieces and two nephews for Christmas. They were skeptical as only preteens and teens can be, but once they started reading it, they were engaged. It's written clearly and jargon-free, and it's easy for anyone to understand.

I am giving rarely reviews. But for this book I must.I got this book for my 10 years older daughter and we read it together. It explains to the kids the function of money and how to deal with that.

I could recommend this book to the parents who want to educate their money and spending to their kids.
