This is a nice book and a decent price. I use it for extra work and homework sheets for my daughter who is home schooled. The math section and history is excellent but the science and English do not follow along with all of the topics that we are doing for those subjects. (We home school following the same topics that our public school covers for each grade just to prevent learning gaps in the event that our kids ever had to enroll back at public school) I would buy this book again, I have gotten many work sheets out of this to supplement. It is a big thick book with some fun worksheets.
I know I shouldn't be using this as the main homeschool curriculum but I am for this year. The book is good; I haven't had too many pages that felt confusing but there are definitely some assignments I didn't understand. I can't figure out where they get some of the text for the reading passages, they are really weird and they aren't sited. The book has some really interesting assignments and some duds (because even I couldn't figure out where the authors were going with certain things, even with the answer key!) But most of the assignments are pretty straightforward, but my kid needs almost constant supervision with it. The assignments come with almost NO instruction, so I am spending a lot of time explaining things or looking things up online.
I really like this book. It provides my daughter with extra practice time at home. My kids love to learn, and she doesn't mind as long as I do not take up too much time (I keep it short). They are only allowed 20 minutes of "homework" time at her school; so her homework consists of reading for 20 minutes each night which is weird to me. This book allows me to help keep my child's skills sharp, and also helps me by showing me where she might have problems. I only wished it was a little more colorful.
READ THIS WHOLE REVIEW BEFORE YOU BUY: I am seriously concerned that all of the other parents are giving this workbook such high ratings. I let my 5th grader try just one page, and it immediately raised red flags. The content is seriously inappropriate for kids, and is very different from what my child sees at school. For example, on page 33: "The young soldier barked, 'Stop crying, you idiot child!'" and "'They took my bread, eh?' said Uncle Henrik. 'I hope they choke on it.'" This was entitled "Quotation Quiz," but it sounded more like excerpts from a WWII fiction novel for older kids, which is just inappropriate for a 5th grader. Many other pages are also about funerals and death, and are probably excerpts from literature (the one decent excerpt was from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe). For example, on a comparison exercise on page 48: "Like a prisoner on her way to a beheading, Heather walked sullenly when we came to the creek."

Many of the language exercises are like that. NEED I SAY MORE?
An all in one workbook for grade 5. I bought this for my 9 year old son who is a homeschooler, and will be going to public school in the fall. This is a good introduction to worksheets and also what types of learning will be expected. He especially likes the worksheets that involve activities.
I'm always hesitant to buy books like these, b/c they are usually not as educational as I would like, or not grade level appropriate, leaving them bored or frustrated. My daughter likes this book, the pages are useful, it is educational yet fun, and just hard enough to get her thinking about it, without all of the frustration. It has tons of pages. We've had it for a few months, and she is still using it.
I bought this as a homeschool book for my son age 11.It came in mint condition and was just as described. It was a huge help to our homeschool as well as fun to do.However it is impossible to get through all the amazing worksheets in one year. The only bad thing I could even say about this is the science was a bit hard for a 5th grader but other than that you couldn't do better than this book !!!
My daughter and I are enjoying the exercises in this book. Fun and educational.
