My son, age 8, has fallen in love with the My Weird School, My Weird School Daze, and My Weirder School series of books. In fact, he spent so much time reading them this summer that he's completed the entire series, and is eagerly awaiting the next installment. The books are very funny. I've read quite a few with my kids. And I enjoy hearing excerpts from all the funny bits when my son reads them to us. My daughter, age 5, has also fallen in love with Arlo, Andrea and the other students of Ella Mentary School. Though she can't yet read, she enjoys it when myself or my son read to her. The audio books -- available from -- are excellent as well. (Only wish there were more in this format.) My son has read some of the books in paperback format, and others on my husband's Kindle. Both formats work well for him. I HIGHLY recommend this series. (You will want to talk about Arlo's sense of humor... and lack of insight... and how it might not be a good idea to repeat some of the things he says... To me it's been a great conversation starter about how to behave in social situations, etc.
My grandson, who is 6, just loves all of Dan Gutman's "My Weird School" Series' books. I can't tell you how much fun we have had reading and totally cracking up laughing from the weird stories of the teachers, helpers, principal, coaches, bus drivers and more. These are not to be missed. I live far away, so after Matthew reads them, he saves them for when I go to visit to re-read. He gets so excited when we each read a page and it comes to a funny part. My older granddaughter, who is 8, and the twins, who are 3-1/2, all enjoy listening to the reading as well. The characters are fleshed out so brilliantly and pop up at you with images that will stay with your child forever. Don't miss these books at an affordable price with many hours of enjoyment and lessons to learn. Go for it!
