What do you dread eating the most? For the hero of this story, it’s peas, and he thinks he’s discovered a solution.“I closed my eyes tightly and sent out a wishThat the peas would somehow disappear from my dish. And something quite strange and mysterious occurred,As if somehow… somebody… somewhere had heard.”He makes a bargain with a fiendishly funny monster. First the deal is simple: the monster will eat the boy’s peas in exchange for his soccer ball. But with each new encounter, the monster’s demands escalate. Eventually, our hero faces a daunting decision―can he conquer his loathing for peas or will he lose his most prized possession?Matt Faulkner’s uproariously detailed illustrations and Danny Schnitzlein’s Seuss-inspired verse combine to create a clever story about how far we are willing to go to avoid doing the things we hate.

What's a kid to do when he's given a pile of disgusting peas to eat? He can eat them...or he can make a deal with a monster who will eat them for him. If he opts for the latter, there will be a catch.

Told in rollicking rhyme, it's a fun story that kids will enjoy reading again and again. The illustrations really capture the essence of the monster and bring the story to life. Picky eaters might learn that it's better to eat their food than deal with the consequences of bargaining with a monster. Recommended for kids ages 3-7. -Sherry Ellis, Author of That Mama is a Grouch

The boys' favorite book!! I loved it from the moral of the story, to the very detailed illustrations!!! My two and 3 year old little fellas loved the book so much, they read it every night until I had had enough!! They now like their peas, and each time they eat their peas, they definitely mention the PEA MONSTER!!!! Great book will captivate your hyper little tot!

My English Language Learners and I loved the story! It is hard to find literature with such an important message at my students' English comprehension levels. The illustrations in this book bridge the language gap by providing essential visuals.

This is a great children's book! I love reading it to my grandsons and they love the pictures and story line as they have a hard time liking some of their veggies too!

Kids love the book, wish I had gotten it in hard cover. It is beautifully written and illustrated.

This is a lovely and funny book for picky eaters. I gave a copy to my great niece as she is one who doesn't like to try new foods and will only eat a limited variety. She did try something new after she was read the book-she is four years old. She thought the book was very funny and told me all about it when I saw her. We'll see if she continues to try new things. I have also read this book to first graders and they absolutely enjoy the rhyming as well as the story. When the monster asks for his dog they all get into telling him not to give him up!!

Great story about a boy who loses much trading his beloved items to a monster in exchange for the monster eating his peas. When the price becomes too high, the boy eats his own peas and learns they are not that bad. Vibrant drawings and nice message.
One of my favorite stories to read to children
