This brightly illustrated book begins with Chloe sharing the good news with her dog, Scootch. "Today my new baby brother, David, is coming home!" Chloe had been to the hospital to see the new baby, and she understands that he must stay there for a few more days to make sure he is healthy.

Finally, Mom and Dad bring David home. Chloe introduces herself to her new brother and shows him all the pretty pictures she has drawn for him. Not understanding Chloe, David begins to cry. This scares Chloe and she is convinced that her new brother does not like her.

Mom and Dad explain that babies cry a lot that's how they communicate when they are hungry or tired. Chloe's parents use this opportunity to explain that she is a big kid. "Big Kids"can ask for what they need and ask questions when they don't understand something.

Chloe sometimes feels sad that the baby is getting so much attention. Her parents have to feed him, change his diapers, rock him when he cries, and play with him. She feels that nobody is noticing her. Her parents encourage her to share her feelings about David. They tell her it is okay to feel sad and left out, but there are many fun things that are only for big kids. Her parents understand how Chloe feels and they plan to spend more time with her. They read books, bake cupcakes, and play board games.

Chloe's parents involve her in caring for her baby brother. Mom watches as Chloe rocks him and sings to him. She tries to be quiet when he is asleep. She enjoys making faces at David to make him laugh. Chloe knows that being a big sister means sharing her parents with her new baby brother. But she also knows that she has a great new friend to play with and help take care of.

The last page of this self-help book for kids lists the things to remember when baby comes home. Chloe's New Baby Brother is a must have book to read and discuss your child's feeling about a new brother or sister

I have many friends who had a hard time with their first born once they had another baby. Young children have a hard time understanding how their parents can love someone else and still care about them... This book speaks right to a child without the feeling of a lecture. The pictures are fun, the writing is simple for your young child and the concept is great.

As an only child, I never experienced the addition of a little brother or sister...so how on earth was I going to explain it to my kids? This book shows children how a new sibling isn't a replacement, but a new best friend! Thiel provides a valuable lesson to children, and a valuable tool for adults. I recommend this book to any family.
