Poison Apple Books: Thrilling. Bone-chilling. These books have bite!Casey Slater can’t believe her bad luck. It’s the summer before seventh grade, and instead of the perfect vacation she’d planned with her best friend, Casey is in a remote country town, where her parents are restoring an old, creaky, creepy house. Worst of all, everyone else in town thinks the old house is haunted. And soon Casey thinks so, too -- a vase explodes, a heavy china cabinet falls over on its own -- and it seems like the ghost doesn’t want them there. Casey thought she’d be dying of boredom, but now she’s scared to death!

I love a good ghost story, who doesn't, and Mimi McCoy really delivers in this novel. It offers its readers just enough spooktascular ghost story without being over-whelming or nightmarish.

In this novel, Casey Slater is planning to have the best summer of her life! That is until her parents decide to have another plans in the guise of a creepy old fixer-upper they have purchased in Stillness, New Hampshire. But don't let the town's name fool you, this house is anything but still.

While Casey is pouting about her parents decision to ruin her summer, she is unaware that she is about to embark on a ghost mystery. After all, from day one in the new summer house, creepy things happen. There is tapping, shouting, calls for help, unexplained accidents...and only Casey seems to be aware. Can Casey unravel the mystery before she too becomes a victim of this house on Drury Road?

The tight plot and likable characters make this a page-turner. It reminds me a bit of Nancy Drew, but more modernized with a higher creep factor. But do not let that creep factor fool you - it is definitely age-appropriate for the tween audience.

McCoy first charmed me with her Candy Apple novels The Accidental Cheerleader, The Babysitting Wars, and Star-Crossed. It is apparent with her latest novel that she has a talent for writing for the tweens...a talent that appeals to those of us who just enjoy great story telling.

If you too like a great ghost story, but don't necessarily enjoy being scared to death, you need to add The Dead End to your reading list.
I chose this rating of four stars because the fact that it is an audience for 9-10yr olds, it can give a person who is older a big surprise!!!! I say this because the story line does not seem to be for that age range. It is a mystery slash creepy book and for my age it did give me chills. What I liked about this book was that there were points in the book the reader will think the book is at its climax but then the reader will figure out it is not even close to the climax. So what I am trying to say is that this book will make you want to predict what is coming next on the next page or even the next sentence. I would not say this book is scary, it is mostly mystery that will get you thinking. So I would recommend this book to people who love mysteries and creepy storylines that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

My daughter is really into this series and loves to read all the books.
I bought the first 6 books in this series for our 10 yr old grandaughter! She is an avid book reader and enjoyed all 6 books! Now I need to get her the rest so she can complete the series! I will not be leaving a review for the other 5 books as she enjoyed them all and the review would'nt change.
I bought this for my daughter who is 8 1/2yrs old. She already has books #2-#7 (which were purchased at her school's book fair) and we were finally able to find Book #1 in the Poison Apple series. We found it for a very good price & shipping from Amazon was as usual quick and efficient! Riley would highly recommend this book & the rest of the series of Poison Apple Books which now run to #8. We loved Goosebumps books and still do, so this was a good transition with spooky stories & all girl leading characters (but not too scary for their age group)-- we would BOTH highly recommend this book along with the rest of the series!! Very entertaining & easy to read!!! :))The Dead End (The Poison Apple #1)
Really I love a good ghost story, they make my gears grind. When I do this it causes me to get inspired to write my own story. Anyway if you are looking for a good ghost story there you go!
I had to get this for my daughter. She is a fan and even though she reads fast she tried to make this book last her for a few days. LOL!
I really thought that the book was really good because it had a lot of dramatic situations.
I chosen the rating because I really liked the book, but it's not the best book l ever read.
I would probably choose like.
I would probably recommend it to my best friend because in this book, Casey has a best friend in this book.
