When Ben and his friend Kelly spontaneously decide to rescue an abused dog, they can't possibly foresee the obstacles that accompany such a decision. Armed with patience and the immense power of his never-wavering love, Ben works toward--and waits for--his most cherished goal.

A Dog Of My Own is a tender story of the healing power of love -- one that will long live in the hearts of all little souls.

This heartwarming story was beautifully illustrated by Katya Krenina, whose stylized, contemporary illustrations have been lavishly praised by reviewers and heralded as "stunning" by the New York Times Book Review. Publishers Weekly has compared her style to that of Chagall, for its intuitive, dreamlike quality.

A friend of mine who was a guidance counselor at school showed me this book after I got my shy little rescue dog. I bought the book for my grandchildren to help them understand why my little dog doesn't act like most other dogs. SWEET little book!
Having begged his mother for a dog for a LONG time, Ben can't believe it when she finally agrees to letting him have a dog all of his own! The following morning, Ben and his best friend Kelly head out to go to Mr. Hogan's farm as his collie has recently had a litter of pups. Mr. Hogan has agreed to give Ben one of the puppies for free if his mom agreed.

On their way to the farm Ben and Kelly hear another gentleman yelling at something? What is it? Turns out to be a stray dog that he is trying to catch so as to take it to the pound. Ben doesn't even have to think before he asks if he can have the dog. What follows is a story of a boy and his 'fraidy cat' dog. Will Duke ever learn to trust again? Time and patience are much required by Ben and Kelly.

Delightful! Lovely illustrations!
What a sweet story about love and giving your love to someone who really needs it. When you give love it comes back to you
