"Garfield & Company, v.2: Curse Of The Cat People"
Based on the work of Jim Davis
(Papercutz, 2011)
It is one of my great shames in life that my kid is so into that obnoxious cartoon cat, Garfield (I was always a "Calvin And Hobbes" kinda guy, myself...) Regardless, she really likes Garfield and was thrilled to see these cartoon anthologies based on the new Garfield Show TV series, which uses CGI animation to bring Garfield's world to life. These books use stories from the series, with adapted screenshots as artwork in a graphic novel format that allows three stories to be collected in each volume. This first book has the episodes "The Curse Of The Cat People," "The Pet Show" and "Bone Diggers." More important than what I think is what my kid -- the Garfield zombie -- thought: she dug it. Tore through 'em, read 'em again, asked when the next volume was coming out. So there you have it. Phooey on you, Dad. (Joe Sixpack, kids book reviews)
Time travel stories have always appealed to me. As far as Garfield is concerned, and ancient Egypt goes, if it was good enough for Dr Strange and the Fantastic Four (in their reincarnation storyline), it is good enough for Garfield.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Curse of the Cat People, this time it is the strongest story. Garfield an object of worship? For 2000 years? Well, that might be too long. If his worshippers offer lasagna, he might be able to handle it. Maybe.

There is an old joke that has law officials digging up a mothers garden in spring, and somehow Bone Diggers captures the heart of the joke. Garfield finds a dinosaur bone, and makes national attention. Problem is that the bone just may cost John his yard.

This book is quite better than the first. Perhaps it's the two strong stories, and the mainly strong Pet Show.

I like this series. Buy these for your kids. Who needs to watch the TV series.

Tim Lasiuta.
"Curse of the Cat People" is the funniest Garfield cartoon ever!! Neferkitty doesn't get that get that cats already do rule the world - but the ending really seals the deal as Neferkitty gets adopted by a sweet little girl and is renamed "Fuzz Button". "Fuzz Button?!" she growls, clearly disgusted by the name. I don't really remember the other two cartoons, but "Curse of the Cat People" is definitely the funniest.
Garfield is back for whole new generation! These comics are adapted from the all new Garfield TV series. The book includes stories directly from show and includes The Curse of The Cat People, Pet Show and Bone Diggers. Reluctant readers will be drawn in to the comic!
