I purchased this book about 4 years ago. It touches on every aspect of the hiring process from web sites, to resumes and cover letters, to phone and in-person interviews. The biggest thing I took away from the book was the simple question "Why do you want to work here." I always thought the answer "to gain more experience/help in my path" was a generally accepted answer-WRONG. It's what you can do for them, not what they can do for you.

Within a month of reading this book, my friend and I both had jobs. I loaned it to a third person, and he found it very helpful as well. It was worth every penny I paid for it. I've since bought another copy for a friend another friend of mine.
While this was helpful and had some very good advice, it was not 'magic'. Much of it was similar to "What Color is Your Parachute," which is still excellent advice, with a few unique tidbits. If you have read a lot of job search books, you might have already read much of this book, but it still holds a few gems that make it worth while.
I was very happy with the transaction. I received the book in a timely fashion and it was in the condition as described. I read a few reviews that criticized the length of the book, but I thought it was quite thorough and contained the information I was looking for. Too many books focus only on resumes and interviews. "Job Search Magic" includes exercises that focus on the individual as well. Once I found my "story", it was much easier to identify the right job for me and convey it clearly to the person who hired me. Highly Recommended!
Some have claimed that there is too much information in these books, but I disagree. It is an excellent source for the job seeker. I have had no success in actually contacting the author at her business, but I still hold out hope....
Taught me everything I know
The book is a comprehensive guideline used to systematically conduct a job search. Like it's companion, "Resume Magic" it is loaded with comprehensive detailed information and guidence however, like it's companion, it is big on advice but lacks practical methods to implement the sugestions. I purchased it to help me get up to speed using social media to enhance my job search . While the book does provide lots of good information regarding social sites like "LinkedIn" I felt it could do a better job of instructing the implementation of the recommendations in the form of a "how too" step-by-step instruction.
The book is somewhat redundant in comparisoon to the companion book, "Resume Magic". (Which I also purchased.) Either book could function as a "stand alone" text for job seeking activities. The differences are found in the level of detail with regard to the title topic, "Resume Magic" provides more detail regarding resumes while "Job Search" provides more detial with regard to conducting a job search. The detail amounts to approximately one extra chapter dedicated to the title topic with the balance of the book pretty much covering the same territory. My advice is to purchase one of the three books that emphasizes your particular area of interest and forego the others in the series.
net rider
This is a good book on how to conduct a job search for the job that you really want. This book is huge and if you can't find the info that you need in this one book, I'd be surprised.
this book is comprehensive but not so readable book. buy it as an encyclopedia but not as a guide book.
