One of the few biographical books covering the early years of someone with a significant case of autism, Temple's book tells a lot and you should read it if you have a high level of interest in the spectrum However, for understanding the reality of the situation for young children, you will learn more form Donna Williams first book, "Nobody, Nowhere."
Recently our 7 year old daughter was diagnosed with Austim and a language disorder. This book is just what I needed to shift my thinking and gain a glimpse into the world my daughter is experiencing. I feel I have a better understanding of what is driving her behavior and I feel better equiped to search out answers and help her and those around her to understand her. This book is easy to understand and I recommend this to anyone who is in any type of relationship with an austic individual.
You should read this book, you need to read even If you don’t know anyone who has autism one day you may and reading this will help you understand them! if you don’t know anyone who has autism one day you may end knowing them. It will help you understand that respected more
I watched the movie, Temple Grandin, and wanted to read her books. Her book, "Thinking in Pictures," was good, although it had a lot of useful information for autistic people and their families that I didn't need. "Emergence" was more anecdotal and I got a lot out of it.

I recommend watching the real Temple Grandin on YouTube; there are many clips of her talking at autism conferences and animal treatment conferences, as well as a five-part BBC documentary. I like her outlook.

I want to read "Animals in Translation" next. It's her latest book, I think, and a friend told me it is a great book.
heart of sky
I loved the movie, Temple Grandin and I am reading many of her books. This is the book that the movie is based on - and is excellent. A great read if you have an autistic child or if you are interested in animal behavior. Learning about autism from the eyes of someone diagnosed with autism is fascinating. We are fortunate to have an author who can talk about this special ability.
This was a really great look into the world of Temple Grandin. I think she did a wonderful job exposing us to her perspective of the world, and some of the challenges she faced throughout her journey with autism. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about autism - so long as they read more than just this one book to get an idea!
Temple Grandin is a must read for anyone, especially if you wish to enter the special needs field!! In this book she tells her story of overcoming her Autism to become the strong woman she is today. She is a role model!
Temple Grandin tells what it is like to realize you are different and how others reacted to her difference. Very useful information for those of us that work with this population. Interesting to read this "view from the other side of the story". Creates even more compassion and understanding of how the world looks and sounds through the eyes of someone with a form of Autism. I'd say it is a "must read" for all who work with persons with a from of Autism.
