"The Road to Bosworth Field" is not a biography but a resource book consisting of transcribed or translated documents ranging from Richard's own letters and his charter for a chantry chapel at Middleham to excerpts from the Croyland Chronicle and Dominic Mancini's "De Occupatione Regni Anglie per Riccardum Tercium" (The Occupation of the Throne of England by Richard III). The full text of Titulus Regius, Parliament's confirmation of Richard's claim to the throne, is included along with excerpts from other laws, such as those outlawing benevolences (forced loans) or forbidding the seizure of a prisoner's goods before his trial, passed during Richard's only Parliament. The famous prayer copied for Richard into his Book of Hours while he was king, perhaps by his confessor, John Roby, is also included. These documents and many others are presented with unobtrusive, objective commentary providing the context. The book contains many illustrations, some of them color photographs, of places, portraits, and artifacts associated with Richard. Anyone who believes in the importance of primary sources for the understanding of the real Richard III as opposed to the legend immortalized by Shakespeare and Sir Thomas More should own this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book about Richard III and his brothers. It contained first hand correspondence and information that I haven't found in other books on this subject,
