this is a book I have used in ministry, since I bought it in the l970's , yet somehow it went missing. My new husband and I watched the DVD this Easter season while everyone else was watching THE BIBLE on TV. Even after all these years, it was powerful , WITH NO "special effects". Just a simple , movie account that was scripturally accurate. So I looked for the book, after viewing the movie, and alas, gone. Now this book is written by a renowned BIBLE scholar. If u minister on any level, u will find "extra" information regarding the times that Jesus lived in. It explains the political climate which is SO IMPORTANT to gain a complete understanding of ancient Israel's plight. These books are very difficult to find, however, as I believe they r out of print unfortunately.

When I first viewed Franco Zefferelli's epic miniseries, Jesus of Nazareth, it was Palm Sunday of 1977 (with Part 2 airing on Easter Suncay evening). Although I was only eight years old, I was absolutely enthralled as I sat watching it. When I discovered a few years later that they had produced a "coffee-table" book based on the miniseries filled with full-page color production stills, I begged my mother to buy it for me as a Christmas present. (I was 11 years old.)The softcover version she bought was beautful but the binding wasn't the greatest and so now, thirty years on, entire sections of pages come out. When I saw the hardcover version offered on Amazon.com, I jumped at the chance. As mentioned, the production stills are full-page and in color and they serve to illustrate the text written by Anthony Burgess (A Clockwork Orange) based on the teleplay he had co-written with Franco Zefferelli. Burgess' text isn't always 100% in sync with the Scriptural account but an enjoyable read nonetheless. Buy it now!

I haven't read it yet, but know it is a good book because my sister has it and read it and she loves this book very much. I bought it used and it arrived in great shape the pages are nice and clean {very white] and the book jacket is in tack. I can tell it has been read a lot with a lot of TLC. Right now I'm reading the bible so when I'm done with it I want to read Jesus of Nazareth, can't wait.

This is a great book but it really has the script for a play and not reading for Bible study. Still ok.

Even so, Zeffirelli’s achievement is unique. Nothing like “Jesus of Nazareth” has been made before or since, and nothing may ever be again.

I bought this second copy of "Jesus of Nazareth" for a friend, having had my own since it was published in 1977 during the airing of the corresponding mini-series for NBC by director Franco Zeffirelli. The photographs say it all, and the choice of those used in the book are superlative. If you respect this film as much as I do, you will want to find a copy.
