this just shows the different types of programs out there but I found the book to be outdated compared to other reference books out there
Kind of out of date by now, but ideas and principles still current. PLease with it especially considering the price.
A big book if you read it all, but a great overview of methods of education. A Great place to start for new (or veteran) homeschoolers!
"The Big Book of Home Learning" is the best book out there on getting started in homeschooling. [It] covers; how to get started, how to homeschool successfully, learning styles, homeschool methods, what to do in special situations, recordkeeping, and much more! Mary Pride also provides reviews(some reviews are written by other people) for all of the complete curriculums from many of the popular companies. All of the reviews are in alphabetical order and are easy to find. They are also well written and really help you to decide what curriculums will work best for your family. I recommend this book to all new homeschoolers!
I have homeschooled for 13 years and taught special education before that. I manage a library for a church homeschool group I co-founded. I have read and bought just about every homeschool book ever written. If you want lots of information this book is fine. But beware, Mary Pride's biases and ignorant views of some subjects limits the usefulness of this book. As an unapologetic Christian, I felt attacked and demoralized by her ignorant raving.
A little outdated, but still had some great information.
If you are thinking of homeschooling- this is the book to get. If you are starting to homeschool- this is the book to get.
If you want to research homeschooling- this is the book to get.
When I began to think about homeschooling, I started to research the subject. I began by talking to parents and every one of them suggested this book. So, I got it.
This is the book to have if you are considering homeschooling or just getting started. There is a lot of factual information in this book. There are reviews of curriculum, information about types of curriculums, suggestions for saving money, addresses, phone numbers, websites, and more. One thing I really really liked were the positive stories about homeschoolers. The success stories really motivated me and encouraged me in knowing that I too could do this.
I strongly suggest that you buy this book if you are going to be parent who homeschools.
