by Jay E. Adams

“Counselors unanimously find that marriage and family problems outnumber all other counseling problems combined. For that reason alone, counselors should want to learn all they can about marriage counseling.” —Jay Adams This book will help counselors understand and deal with the typical problems that arise in a marriage. The approach is to offer not merely solutions, but biblical solutions. Chapter by chapter, each problem that is brought into focus is addressed by Scripture, and a solution arising from Scripture is developed. Unless one understands what a biblical marriage is supposed to be, it is difficult to solve marriage problems. For that reason, Dr. Adams spends the first few chapters developing a biblical model. Then he treats many of the specific kinds of problems that typically arise: life patterns, priorities, children, sex roles, in-laws, and so forth. This is a book that belongs on every pastor’s and every counselor’s shelf.

Another great Counseling book to solve the marriage problems of those who are willing to listen. If you are not willing to admit that regardless of what the problem is, you are part of the problem. If you are not willing to work at it and change you, for you are the only one that you can change, then you should not waste your time reading this book. But, if you truly want to save your marriage, then you should read it.
If you need help to straighten out some of those pesky issues that drive you and your mate crazy, then this is the book for you. I took Nouthetic counseling in Dr. Adams class and he approaches issues with a language that's so easy to understand. I love the way he just simply presents his solutions. He isn't so much of a teacher, as he is a translator. He explains things in a way I could clearly understand. I didn't have to stop and think about his direction. This book was one of our textbooks. I still have it.
I bought this book because my wife and I have been separated for 3 1/2 years and not by my choice. I wanted to learn where I had failed in our marriage and if God's will for my wife to return to help me be a godly husband. I recommend this book highly!

Jay Adams is has led the way for true nouthetic counseling as a pioneer.
Jay Adams can't do anything but write the greatest, most helpful books. His wisdom and communication skills have changed many lives including mine and those of the people my husband and I have counselled for many years. This book is just another example. Thank God for his using Jay E. Adams as an instrument to help others in need.

Required reading has never been so enjoyable. So far, all the books I've had to read by Jay Adams have been really interesting and keep me engaged! I highly recommend!
This is without a doubt the most insightful, Biblical, and convincing study of what God means in His Word when he talks about marriage, and divorce, and His design for it, and our obligations to Him in it. This is not just for the Biblical Student in Seminary, but for the husband, and wife that are struggling with their guilt and perhaps sin in their marriage. A must read for the serious seeker of truth about the topic. Not that this is the final word on the topic, but the reader will find in this book insightful truths about why the Word of God says what it does about marriage and divorce, and why it is so difficult to come to terms with the truth of Scripture concerning the topic.
great book for any counselor or helper in marriages.
