Love this series and am glad to own it so that I can do it at my own pace. I can review, repeat, move ahead... Yes, this was recorded several years ago so you have look past the clothing & hair styles because you're buying this set for the CONTENT and it's value doesn't diminish.

This book taught me so much! Sadly, so many people don't read scripture because they want flash and bang rather than just reading. While I'd challenge the person who pursued an extraordinary experience only, in reading Scripture, one will find it pretty mind blowing if you just dig in. In my opinion, that is what this book helps one do... dig in and see the greatness of God.

This is a really good book. Mr Hendricks shows you how to read the Bible, from the prospective of a College Professor, teaching a Seminary Student. And yet it is broken down to a level that anyone who really wants to dive deeper into the Bible with greater understanding will be able to do. He also recommends several other books on the lost art of reading for understanding. He is the Professor you would want to take a class from.

A great study book. You will learn so much using this book. Studying the Bible will be an eye opener when you use the guidelines in this book. The layout and the studies in the book will be a great addition to any Bible scholar.

You just can't say anything negative about Dr. Hendricks. It will take a long time to find a replacement for this dedicated man.His methodology for scripture study is second to none.

I have not read this one from cover to cover. I liked what I have learned so far. It tells you how to observe, Interpret, and apply the scriptures to your life. I read the bible differently now, because of this book. A great resource to keep on hand and at your finger tips.

"Living by the Book" by Howard & William Hendricks is for a select audience: (1)those people who know they should read the Bible but have struggled to "get into it," (2)those who want to improve their Bible study skills, and (3)those who wish to teach.

Strong points: 1) Organization--It has many chapters, but they are short and focus on 1 subject at a time. 2) Teaching approach--The authors use clear examples and simple practical exercises to teach the reader who wishes to learn & understand. 3) Pacing--You may choose to work on the reading & "homework" steadily or set it aside & come back to it. You should have little trouble "getting back into the flow" of the book. 4) Usability--This book is useful for personal Bible study and for those who wish to teach others about the Scriptures. It is also useful for those who wish to teach others how to teach these things.
Very good book for a more I depth study of the bible. Where I once read the verse and chapter, I am now dissecting almost every word. It's awesome as I have learned to really delve into the meaning and intentions of the writer.
